I have started to collect screenshots of different compositors, both old and new, for my own amusement and to study user interface design.

Just noted that Opera Film have updated their page, not by much, but there are now two small galleries of captures from Camp Slaughter and work in progress images from Typhoon.
The one of Typhoon contain pretty “old” images and don’t say that much compared to the demonstration clip (and another one) I’ve seen.
There are a few newsworthy bits regarding Melies the open-source compositor I’m developing as project leader.
I’m happy to welcome a new developer, Mikael Sundell from Actro Group, onboard the project this early on before any official CVS release. He has offered to develop our support for Quicktime on the Linux platform and write a brand new flipbook that will support both frame stores (frames in individual image files) as well as svq/svq3/DV/jpeg/mjpeg video and use OpenGL framebuffers for display.
Personaly I’m currently away from the Melies project doing some user interface refactoring for K-3D that will make the whole interface using scriptable widgets. When that is done I’m going to work on the two projects in parallel finishing Melies render engine Irend and get the codebase into CVS.
I’m not talking about the eleven volumes of the Warren Commision’s report but the software used to deinterlace and retime Camp Slaughter. The movie will be released in time for Halloween and open in theatres throughout Scandinavia, with an international DVD release following soon after.

I’m in the midst of an upgrade. My computer is a patchwork both by hardware and software. And now I discovered that I have partition table inconsistencies but my computer still keep on booting as normal, evidently. I feel like I would need a reboot….

If you search the term Camp Slaughter at Google you will get a hit for the directory category House of Representatives > Members… Kinda scary. Try it.
I believe the reason the article about JVC GR-HD1 stated that current video editing software is unable to handle the HD recording format was built on a misconception. I think they meant that current software can’t capture the MPEG-2 stream from the camera over IEEE 1394 (branded FireWire by Apple). Once you got the MPEG-2 data transfered there is no problem to edit it with a modern resolution independent editing suite such as Fina Cut Pro.
The problem thus lies into getting the data to the computer from the camera device. But I don’t think there going to be any problem for anyone to put togehter a driver for it. IEEE 1394 is just a transport layer (not intended for DV at all in the first place) just like Ethernet and IP (as in TCP/IP). And MPEG-2 is a widely spread standard you can’t avoid it: all TV broadcast is delivered with it, DVDs is encoded in it….
It just amazed me that no one linked to the official press release in the reporting of the Las Vegas rollout of the camera. Anyway here is the JVC GR-HD1 press release.
