Jazz Notes

Voicing

We will now concentrate on what you normaly do in the left hand if you playing the melody in your right, or sometimes with both your hands if someone else take care of the melody.

Chords

You very rarely play the root together with rest of the chord in you right hand, that either the job for your left hand or already done by the bass-player. To avoid duplicating the root omitted root substitution can be put to use.

Stride Piano

Play the bass notes low and jump up an octave to play the 7th and 3rd of each chord. Playing like that is a very simple version of what is called “stride piano”. (See “Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise” for more.)
