Lots of interesting stuff have happend the last couple of weeks that I’m itching to talk about but can not make a full disclosure of — yet.
On one side the Melies FX project has been resting the last month or so since the developers, including me, tought it would be a nice idea to try spend a vacation away from development tasks. It succeeded, almost. I was fooled into a digital motion picture camera project, something I have dreamed of for years, with the promise of turning hybris into a product. So I have among other thing researched and written a wavelet based lossless image compression codec.
The Melies FX project got a mention on the Linux Movies ML and Billy Biggs contacted me offering MMX/SSE optimizations for a whole range of scanline functions. It will be interesting to see how to incorporate the smoothly into the Irend to coexist with unoptimized and AltiVec code in the library.
And Mikael Sundell is back from vacation working on the flipbook player and ui for Melies FX. Things looking good.
On the other side, not quoting The Doors, I have been busy trying to fix a screenplay I wrote several years ago. It’s part of my project to save old document, among them screenplays, that is either stored in ancient file formats or no longer readable files. My plan was to simply retype the screenplay from a printed version into Final Draft. But when reading it I realised it sucked so terrible that I had to do more than just type it in. The problem is that I no longer own a copy of the book that the story is based on, so I’m sitting here waiting for the backordered book to arrive. Wish me luck …
