James Ellroy

One of the best authors to penetrate and describe the american psyche is without any doubt James Ellroy. In my opinion the best crime novelist published today. Last summer I read the two first parts of his new trilogy set in the political landscape of the 60’s. Puncturing the myth about american innocense. And is now eagerly waiting for the last part that guess will take us from the hours after the assination of Sen. Robert Kennedy, the revenge of Tricky-Dick Nixon and hopefully his fall. I can’t wait to read about Watergate in Ellroy’s terse but energic prose.

One of Ellroys great virtues as an author is that he never fall back on clichés - the bad agains god - in his books it is always the bad guys agains the even badder guys. He gives you a different perspective altought fictive but with a strong feeling of presense and truth.

Until then I can recomend everyone to read the two first books American Tabloid and The Cold Six Thousand. I heard that a HBO mini-serie is in the working based on those. And apparently Francis Ford Coppola is producing a movie based on James Ellroy autobiography and book about the investigation of his mothers unsolved murder, My Dark Places, directed by Robert Greenwald.
